The Prairie Acre makes no apologies for being a band you can bring home to mom, dad, grandma, grandpa, your kids, and whoever else you have at home.
At a Prairie Acre show, you’re likely to hear classic bluegrass tunes, old-time sing-alongs about moonshine and jawbones, as well as original numbers that sound like they could have been written in 1932. You’ll hear tight vocal harmonies, high-wire banjo solos, and some mean fiddling.
All the band members live within two blocks of each other in the midwestern mecca of Lawrence, Kansas. They just finished recording their third CD in Noah and Virginia’s living room.
Recent gigs include a week-long engagement at The Festival of American Arts & Crafts at Silver Dollar City in Branson, Mo., as well as shows at The Back Room in Great Bend, Kansas; the Emma Chase Cafe in historic Cottonwood Falls, Kansas; and the Wichita Winter Bluegrass Festival. They’ve also competed in the band contest at RockyGrass in Lyons, Colo., and their songs have gained airplay on “The Flint Hills Special,” Kansas Public Radio’s weekly bluegrass hour.
